SALLY RAFIE (PRESIDENT)
Dr. Rafie graduated from the University of California San Francisco School of Pharmacy, is a Board-Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist, and is an Advanced Practice Pharmacist (APP). She has trained and worked with Planned Parenthood, University of California San Diego Medical Center, University of California San Francisco, and San Francisco General Hospital. Dr. Rafie is a licensed pharmacist in California. She is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Health Sciences at the University of California San Diego Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences where she teaches and trains pharmacy students. Dr. Rafie has a long record of research and advocacy and has published in peer-reviewed medical journals.
COREY L EDWARDS (PRESIDENT-ELECT)
Dr. Edwards attended San Diego State University, WesternU College of Pharmacy and completed a PGY-1 residency at WesternU. He is currently doing a PGY-2 Pharmacy Informatics residency at the VA in La Jolla. His work interests include community practice, ambulatory care, technology, and healthcare analytics. He looks forward to working with the SDCPhA board in his new position.
DAVID B. (TREASURER)
David graduated from the University of the Pacific in 2001 and has been practicing in San Diego county for 15 years, currently working as a staff pharmacist for BriovaRx pharmacy. He enjoys working with and precepting student local pharmacists. In his free time, David enjoys playing with his kids and running.
RACHEL SPERLING (SECRETARY)
Rachel was born and raised in San Diego. She attended pharmacy school at UCSD, completed a year of residency at USC, and now works for the Sharp Community Medical Group doing MTM and anticoagulation. Rachel has been actively involved with student and local CPhA chapters since her first year of pharmacy school. She has served on the SDCPhA board in multiple positions, including as President, and was the CPhA Speaker of the House in 2015-2016. She looks forward to many more exciting years with SDCPhA!
NATHAN PAINTER (BOARD MEMBER)
Nathan A. Painter, Pharm.D., CDE is an Associate Clinical Professor of Pharmacy at the UC San Diego Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Dr. Painter is a certified diabetes educator and manages a pharmacist-run clinic at the UCSD Family Medicine Clinics where he collaboratively manages patients with a variety of chronic diseases, including diabetes, anticoagulation therapy, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia. He is actively involved locally and nationally with the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, the American Pharmacists Association and is on the board of directors for the American Association of Diabetes Educators. Dr. Painter has served as co-coordinator for a Pharmacy Practice course, which introduces early principles of pharmacy focusing on over-the- counter medications and products. During this course, students also receive certification in immunization delivery and smoking cessation. Dr. Painter’s other interests include Medicare Part D; measuring the impact of pharmacist interventions in diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, collaborative care; and safe medication usage in patient populations, and prescription drug abuse prevention and outreach.
YOUSIF ALLAHWERDY (BOARD MEMBER)
Yousif Allahwerdy graduated from Baghdad College of Pharmacy in 2007. He is a clinical pharmacist and currently works at Medical Center Pharmacy in San Diego and runs the specialty pharmacy department for transplant patients. He is actively involved in volunteering at University of California San Diego Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, students’ activity and health conferences to improve students’ skills in patient counseling. He also enjoys spending free time with family and local community activities.

WARREN YAU (STUDENT LIAISON)
Warren Yau is a student pharmacist from the University of California San Diego Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Warren is currently working as a technician at VA San Diego and is involved in SDCPhA as a student liaison. In his spare time, he plays the violin for cancer patients at the Moores Cancer Center.
